ANNOUNCING the Making It Montreal Concert!
Wednesday, October 27, 9 p.m., $5

(pronounced her-shta) plays powerful yet often subtle music. It's the brainchild of singer and guitarist Mike Moya who,
along with a revolving cast of musicians, has performed under that name since
2000. Moya was a founding member of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, with whom he will resume touring with this winter, so don't miss out on what may be the last chance to see HRSTA for awhile!
Grimes is weird pop influenced by styles
such as (to name a few) R&B, Industrial, goth, hip hop and Western
medieval organum. She is noted for simple but strong percussion, vocal
virtuosity, and addictive melodies... particularly unique, strangely beautiful, sometimes scary, frequently melancholic and catchy as hell.
Valleys forge delicate vignettes that chill the blood and stir the soul. Soaked in a swirling ocean of electronic haze, stripped guitars, ghostly vocals, feedback and sparse percussion through a shimmering dream-pop cloudscape.
Making It Montreal: Music Discussion @ Pop Montreal Symposium, Friday Oct. 1, 1 p.m.
Making It Montreal: Music Discussion at the Pop Montreal Symposium!
Montreal’s English-speaking music
scene has been one of the best known in North America for over a decade,
attracting many new talented and hopeful musicians to the city from far and
wide. But why?
The answers will be explored in
this fourth (and final) Making It Montreal live discussion. We'll be asking these four active members of the local music scene who moved to Montreal in adulthood to discuss the specific
challenges and advantages of trying to “make it” here:
- Mike Moya (HRSTA, godspeed you! black emperor)
- Jessie Stein (The Luyas)
- Tillie Perks (Valleys)
- Sebastian Cowan (Arbutus Records)
Friday, Oct. 1, 1 – 2:30 p.m. FREE admission!
Making It Montreal is made possible through the assistance of Canadian Heritage's Cultural Development Fund. The Music Discussion is an ARCMTL/ Pop Montreal co-presentation.
